I still see myself as a beginner at some things when it comes to my yoga practice.
I started to practice yoga a little differently than I usually do this week.
It’s been just over a year since I have completed my teacher training. During my regular personal yoga practice, I’ve discovered that my focus is on what poses I should do.
What pose comes after this one? What is my apex pose going to be? What poses am I going to do before Savasana? For this practice, I decided to move my focus from what pose I’m going to do, and instead I decided to focus on my breath.
Moving with the Breath is powerful.
I decided to do 5 rounds of sun salutations, so I didn’t have to worry about the poses. I decided, instead of focusing on proper form and posture, I decided to move only on the inhale and the exhale.
Being with the breath is like observing the life flowing through me. My body knows the poses. I do not need to analyze my form each time I practice. My focus on the breath has allowed myself to enter into a more meditative state during my practice.
Energetically, I felt more channels of opening coming through as I moved on the breath, and rested into the pose as I stopped. This invited the flow of energy to reach places in my body that do not usually get that kind of energy flow. And this is yoga.
There is so much to learn when it comes to yoga, this is my focus for now. Moving with the breath. Moving with the natural energy that is already in motion, instead of focusing on the “what” in the proper form.
It’s still yoga, just a different experience.
I invite you to move with the breath for your next yoga practice!
If you do not practice yoga regularly, starting with some simple cat/cow movements can be helpful for you.
Happy Breathing!
